Sales Director for SMBs

We’re currently looking for a leader who can navigate SMB / Merchant sales specifically throughout the Nordics, but also the Baltics and Northern Europe.
The SMB Sales Team
Our Sales Team is the beating heart of Aiia. Together with clients, we rewrite the script on what is possible with payments and data across Europe. And we deliver on this vision, bringing growth to both our clients’ businesses and smoother, faster and connected experiences for their customers.
Aiia was founded because of the challenges we faced as an SMB in the open banking space. As a response to this, we’ve committed ourselves to stimulating SMB innovation by supporting and partnering up with all companies striving to change, challenge and shape their products through financial integrations. This is done by equipming all SMBs with simple and easy access to bank data and payments solutions, bringing their innovative ideas to live solutions faster. And because open banking shouldn’t be a shiny toy that only the big kids can play with, Aiia provides open banking for all companies - no matter what size - with the batteries included.
This is the division of Sales that tailors to all new use cases of fintechs and merchants that are looking to increase and drive innovation. Our SMB clients are fast-paced and quick to deliver new products that impact millions of people across Europe.

As a Sales Director for SMBs, you’ll develop and maintain our most complex merchant relationships. You’ll add direct value to the company by helping shape the European market strategy and be responsible for setting and meeting your geographic sales targets. You’ll build partnerships with some of Europe’s most innovative SMBs as they deliver on their open banking and PSD2 compliance journeys. You’ll engage with executives and industry leaders to share your vision while simultaneously being able to bring a multitude of smaller clients along on our journey. Your focus will be on enabling ecosystems through our products and value-added services.
You’re an expert in establishing connections with merchants, from a cold lead to a trusted partner. Your experience is in building executive relationships that ultimately result in bottom line growth for Aiia. Like the rest of the team, you’re meticulous about data. You bring your strategies to life by taking data-driven decisions. You’re capable of building out a complex business case to support both the client’s and Aiia’s decision making.
Together with the Head of the SMB team, you’ll influence the expansion strategy of Aiia across Europe, both in terms of sales and product development. Your strong knowledge of the payments landscape enables you to inspire and mentor Sales Managers.
You achieve this by:
- Representing our team and inspiring others by sharing our vision for open banking
- Building on your reputation as a leader and expanding our network of SMB customers as well as opening doors to generate revenue across Aiia’s solutions
- Developing and executing the SMB strategy within the Nordic market to increase transaction volume across countries: developing innovative use cases, growing market share and data processing revenues, and creating merchant preference for open banking through Aiia
- Owning the full sales cycle from outreach to close: effectively engaging in meetings, understanding business objectives and challenges, and aligning Aiia’s solutions to accomplish partner goals
- Meeting and exceeding the SMB division scorecard
- Meeting the sales targets for payments in a given geographic segment (e.g. Nordics)
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to a team of skilled professionals, establishing a customer-focused, performance-based culture
- Assisting in building sales material to reinforce key company messaging
- Negotiating multiple €300,000+ commercial agreements
- Accurately and consistently maintaining sales tools and CRM
About you
Like us, you’re obsessed with creating use cases for open banking, which are hallmarked by quality. Your passion for the payments industry and for being at the leading edge of open banking is what provides intrigue, connection and experience to SMBs across Europe.
Key to success in this role is your ability to engage multiple stakeholders, listening before solving and being able to systematically focus on strategic priorities. This is an exciting role for someone who’d like to help lead innovation; someone who’s action oriented, focused and appreciates a culture of collaboration.
You’re someone who brings your:
- Vision of how open banking, through Aiia, can change people’s lives and are able to articulate this in a compelling way
- Seven-plus (7+) years of an outstanding track record selling payment/data solutions to Europe's largest merchants and have experience challenging and building their innovation roadmap together with them
- Proven negotiation skills in €300,000+ contracts
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigour. You are detail oriented and have the ability to structure and analyse both sophisticated modelling and data analysis.
- Strong network of connections with key industry players
- Extensive experience in growing a customer base from the ground up, from lead generation to a signed contract.
- Deep product knowledge and strong ability to match Aiia’s products with the needs of the customers
- Ability to work independently within a complex and often ambiguous environment, to drive rigorous, fact-based recommendations to stakeholders and to juggle multiple initiatives at once

- Exceptional written and oral communication skills and a command of a second European language fluently (written and spoken)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the proven ability to influence and communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders
- Willingness to travel 2-3x a month (once travel is open)
